CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE'S SERVICES

Our Homes

We currently have four homes based in small villages on the outskirts of Bradford.

Each home is a new build residential property providing single accommodation for a maximum of two young people within the age range 11-17 years, of either gender.

We pride ourselves on our homes being 'homes' and both externally and internally you wont know that you're in a residential children's home.

Each home has:

  •  A lounge with SKY/Netflix

  • A garden

  • Dining kitchen

  • A shared bathroom

  • 2 young people’s bedroom's

  • Staff sleep room's and discreet office space

Our homes provide a range of modern kitchen and domestic appliances for laundry, cleaning, cooking etc.   All young people in our care are encouraged to participate in the domestic activities needed to run a home, including cooking, laundry etc.  This is part of our 'Passport to Independence Programme' which will be used with all long-term young people in our care, to enable them to successfully move on to independent living.

Each young person will have their own bedroom with:

  • Double bed with own choice bedding

  • Bedside cabinet and lamp

  • Clock/Radio

  • Wardrobe & drawers

  • Desk with chair

  • Bookcase or shelf

  • TV & Sky Box

  • Internet Access

We will work with each young person to ensure that they are provided with a room that is decorated and arranged in accordance their wishes and needs.

All of our staff team are trained in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and this is an inbuilt part of our therapeutic approach.

Our Working Practices

From the point of referral, we will work in partnership with families (where safe and appropriate), carers, commissioners, stakeholders and young people themselves to identify the most suitable package of care and support,  so we are able to fully meet their individual needs and provide the best level of support.

Our service focuses on empowering the children and young people in our care to develop their social, emotional and functional skills and to live happy, safe lives whilst with us.  Our long term aim to to equip them with the skills, experience and knowledge needed to live happy, safe, fulfilled lives and give them the best chance they can have to live successfully as a young adult care leaver.

TCI and PACE

Within our homes we believe that a therapeutic approach to care and support is essential to enable a young person to develop and grow, learning how to manage their emotions and how past trauma can affect the way in which they manage these emotions.

To support this, we work Therapeutic Crisis Intervention alongside with the PACE model of care – Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy

The primary objective of the TCI training programme is to train care team to help young people to develop new responses to their environment that will assist them in their social and emotional development. TCI does this by training care team to:

  • Convey a sense of caring and protection to the individual young person while maintaining the dignity of both young person and care team member.

  • Apply principles, skills and techniques that are safe and effective methods of crisis prevention and management.

  • Focus on prevention, de-escalation, management and resolution of crisis.

The main emphasis being on de-escalation at every level. TCI provides an in depth understanding around the impact trauma has on behaviour, understanding these behaviours and what they may look like and the most affective responses to these.

The spirit, intent and philosophy of TCI is that crisis can be used as an opportunity for learning and development. TCI is based on the premise that care team are important influences in the lives of young people and how they relate to the young people in crisis will affect the outcomes.

The care team will ensure follow up work is done following any incident, rebuilding relationships and supporting the young person to put things right where necessary.

Our whole care team have an approach to behaviour management which seeks to minimise the need for physical intervention and maintain positive relationships.
